A native of Ohio, Joni Koneval is a proud member of the Millenial generation.
While thirteen years of Catholic school -- where she feels she received an incredible education -- may have left her with a mild aversion to plaid, it also gave her the ability to write a "clutter-free" five paragraph essay in 45 minutes and introduced her to her love of theatre. (Even if she did drop a feather duster into the audience that one time...) An obsession with NBC's The West Wing led her to study political science and history in college where she worked for Presidential and Congressional campaigns, helped manage an academic journal on Jewish identity, wrote many research papers, and chaired the UN Security Council. (OK, pretended to chair the UN Security Council...) With her knowledge of parliamentary procedure and the realization that she didn't want to be President of the United States after all, she went to grad school to study history. There she wrote many, many more research papers and recognized the importance of stories in our lives -- both in the past and in the present. A "Jill of all trades," if there's something Joni doesn't know how to do, she learns -- often teaching herself, with her ever growing Spotify playlist playing in the background. She writes, designs, photographs, coordinates, and organizes -- all in an effort to tell the stories of her colleagues and students. Because the stories of the present, of who we are and what we do, are just as important as the stories of the past. And they need to be told. |
